Medikal Expresses Frustration Over Being Underrated in the Ghanaian Music Industry

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has voiced his frustration about feeling underrated in the Ghanaian music scene. He believes his unique style and relentless work ethic have not received the recognition they deserve.

In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Medikal shared that he has learned to separate his personal identity from his artist persona. Reflecting on his career, he expressed how he sometimes watches his own performances and realizes how impressive his work truly is, which he credits for his long-lasting relevance in the industry.

“Sometimes, I feel like I’m underrated. I know how to detach myself from the Medikal brand. Some people carry their persona with their brand, but when I watch my shows, I think, ‘This guy is dope.’ That’s why I’ve managed to stay relevant for so long. It’s not easy,” he said.

Medikal also made it clear that he isn’t ungrateful, but he feels he deserves more recognition and appreciation for his hard work. “I feel underrated; they should give me my flowers. I’m not being ungrateful, I just feel like there should be more attention on me. I work really hard, so Ghanaians shouldn’t overlook me,” he added.

When asked if his unique style might be the reason for the lack of recognition, Medikal defended his approach, stating, “I’m doing everything right; it’s just that my style is different, and some people find it hard to accept.”
