Juliet Ibrahim Claps Back at Critics of Single Mothers

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Juliet Ibrahim has taken to Instagram to respond to critics who look down on single mothers.

In her post, she questioned why society acts as though people can simply rewind life and fix everything that didn’t work out. She expressed her confusion and frustration over the constant attacks directed at single mothers, including herself.

Juliet asked what “crime” single mothers are supposedly guilty of — simply being single? She noted how the term “single mother” is often unfairly treated as something negative, while men are praised even when they behave irresponsibly, as long as they are considered “good fathers.”

She pointed out the double standard in which men are rarely blamed when relationships fail, yet women face harsh judgment even when the breakup wasn’t their fault — or even if it was, but ultimately for the best.

Juliet hinted that she will soon share her full story, saying the time has come.

She reflected on society’s patriarchal mindset, adding that she is proud to be the child of a single mother. At this stage in her life, she said she is more focused on having children than on getting married, and she is even open to adoption and becoming a single parent. She emphasized that people can never be fully satisfied, and she is grateful to have developed a strong mindset that ignores unnecessary criticism.

Juliet also stressed that society should focus on raising boys to be better partners, just as much as it focuses on preparing girls to be good wives. Unfortunately, she said, women must remain strong, continue speaking up, and hope for progress while living in a male-dominated world.

Juliet Ibrahim is among many successful single mothers, such as award-winning journalist Nana Aba Anamoah.

With Mothers’ Day approaching, the message ends with an early wish to all mothers.
