Organizers of Miss Ghana pageant accept Margaret Dery’s resignation

The organizers of the Miss Ghana pageant, Exclusive Events Ghana, have officially accepted the resignation of the 2017 winner, Margaret Dery.
In a statement, the group emphasized their continued commitment to using the Miss Ghana platform to support the poor and vulnerable in deprived communities, noting that nothing will derail that mission. They acknowledged Dery’s resignation, which they said they accepted “gladly and in good faith.”
Margaret Dery, who was crowned on October 7, 2017, submitted her resignation on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, citing poor treatment. In her letter, she requested that the organization revise its implementation plan, saying she could no longer continue under the current conditions.
She wrote:
“Good morning. Unfortunately, I am unable to continue as Miss Ghana in the present circumstances. I will be grateful if we can re-cut an implementation plan. I propose a meeting on 1st August, 2018 to re-cut specific details. Best Regards, Margaret Dery.”
Dery later took to Twitter to express her frustrations, describing her experience as a beauty queen as deeply unpleasant. She called the Miss Ghana brand “a big shame” and warned aspiring contestants that the crown is not as glamorous as it seems.
She wrote that being Miss Ghana had been one of the worst experiences of her life, adding, “All that glitters is not gold. Ladies, you don’t need a crown on your head to succeed.” She vowed not to protect anyone who did not deserve it and hinted that the truth would eventually come out.
Sources say Dery had previously attempted to give up the crown but was convinced by her family to stay.
Meanwhile, Exclusive Events Ghana plans to launch the 2018 edition of the Miss Ghana pageant on August 2, 2018.
