UEW Vice-Chancellor Reaffirms Commitment to Completing Techiman Projects

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Professor Mawutor Avoke, has reaffirmed his strong commitment to completing all ongoing UEW projects in the Techiman area. He gave this assurance during a visit to the Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeyo Ekumfi Ameyaw IV, on Sunday, December 4, 2016, where he formally introduced himself as the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and sought to strengthen ties between the University and the Traditional Council.

The longstanding relationship between UEW and the Traditional Council began years ago, when the Council donated 950 acres of land to the University to help expand educational opportunities in the area. Professor Avoke emphasized the University’s deep appreciation for this gesture and stated that UEW is obligated to continue and finish the project promptly, noting that abandoning it would be a major setback for both parties. He highlighted the significant financial investment already made and reiterated the University’s determination to see the project completed.
He further assured the Council of his readiness to collaborate closely for their mutual benefit, stating that his office remains open to support the partnership in any feasible way. Responding on behalf of the Traditional Council, the Akwamuhene of Techiman, Nana Owusu Gyare, expressed satisfaction with the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment and pledged the Council’s continued cooperation to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

Nana Gyare also cautioned that the presence of other universities establishing campuses in Techiman and surrounding areas makes it crucial for UEW to accelerate work to stay competitive. Professor Avoke was accompanied by several senior university officials, including the Registrar, Dr. C. Y. Akwaa-Mensah; the Finance Officer, Dr. Theophilus S. Ackorlie; and the Principal of the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK), Prof. (Ing.) Reynolds Okai. Members of the Traditional Council—among them the Akwamuhene, Adaatihene, Sanahene, and the Techiman Nkosuohemaa—received the delegation on behalf of the Omanhene.
While in Techiman, the Vice-Chancellor and his team inspected the ongoing construction site, engaging with the contractor and project consultant to get updated on progress. Professor Avoke reaffirmed UEW’s commitment to completing the project and urged the contractor to expedite the work so it can be finalized by mid-2017.
