Work on Sunyani-Techiman-Wenchi-Wa-Hamile Road Corridor to Begin in Third Quarter Under “Big Push” Initiative

Reconstruction of the Sunyani-Techiman-Wenchi-Wa-Hamile road corridor is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year under the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure programme.
This was announced by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza.
To fast-track the process, the Minister has instructed the Ghana Highways Authority to carry out engineering studies and prepare designs for sections of the corridor that are yet to be worked on, ahead of the project’s commencement.
“This entire corridor, stretching to Hamile, forms part of the ‘Big Push’ agenda. It is one of the major projects we are targeting for award in June this year. Those handling the studies and designs must speed up their work – we are short on time,” he said.
Mr. Agbodza gave the update in Sunyani at the beginning of a three-day tour of the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, and Western Regions to inspect ongoing road works.
He stressed that road infrastructure remains a top government priority because of its essential role in economic and social development, even in the face of financial challenges.
“Whatever development we pursue – be it in agriculture, education, or health – roads are fundamental. Our economic progress cannot materialize if we fail to resolve the issues in the road sector,” he emphasised.
The Minister earlier visited the 10.20km Terchire bypass on the Kumasi–Sunyani Highway, a project constructed by Newmont Ghana.
Over the course of the tour, he is also expected to inspect other major projects, including the reconstruction of the Jinijini-Sampa road, the Tepa-Goaso road, Sefwi Wiawso town roads, the reconstruction of the Tarkwa-Agona Nkwanta road, the PTC Interchange, and the dualisation of the Takoradi-Agona Junction road.
